SUNDAY'S MATCH OF THE DAY: Nathan Price of the University of Arkansas, one of the Pre-Qualie No. 1 seeds, lost his opening set and fought for the split by escaping in a second-set breaker, then dominated the deciding set, toppling No. 17 Bastian Faisst of Arkansas-Little Rock, 3-6, 7-6 (6), 6-1. SATURDAY'S PLAYER OF THE DAY: It might not have been the longest match on Saturday under sunny skies at the Champions Club, or the most suspenseful, but it was the strangest. The University of Kentucky's Nate Emge -- one of the Pre-Qualie No. 1 seeds -- dropped his opening set 6-0 toRobbye Poole of Clemson. However, Emge bounced back and never lost another game, advancing to Sunday's round-of-32 with a 0-6, 6-0, 6-0 triumph. FRIDAY'S PLAYER OF THE DAY: University of Central Florida's Gabriel Stangberg had a long, but successful opening day to the 2003 Icy Hot/ITA All-American Championships at the Champions Club. Stangberg pulled out two three-setters to advance to Saturday's round-of-64 play. In his morning test, Standberg escaped Matt Laramore of Ball State, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4, then followed with an afternoon decision over Oklahoma State's Tomas Bohunicky, 6-7 (7-5), 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.
